Student Feedback
My internship at Waters and Sims was an interesting and informative experience. It is an employment services company. Some of the tasks that go with that are calling/guiding clients, organizing information, and having meetings with the director. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to do may of the general HR tasks; however, I was able to conduct my own research, to learn more about the field of HR. The skills I practiced were professional communication, phone skills, active listening, and organizational skills. The most enjoyable part of the internship was the very flexible schedule. The students that would fit here best are able to communicate well, follow instructions, working solo, and working within a deadline.

Waters & Sims is an employment agency that assists adults with disabilities in finding a job and maintaining one as well. While working here, I assisted the director, Monica, along with other managers in the Human Resources side of the company. I spent my days at the site by working on various projects and with client and employee files. I would do things such as updating client and employee folders, discontinuing old clients, and also working on the online client database. I would essentially help anywhere I was needed, so you must be a go with the flow and flexible individual for this position. Skills that assisted me in succeeding at this site were organizational skills, database skills, time management, and also the ability to process new information. These are all skills that I utilized every day at my site that were crucial.
Since this is a small company, I was able to get insight on what the “behind the scenes” work of a company is like first hand which was enjoyable. Everyone here is kind and open to assisting you in any way possible if you need it. The only negative factor about this site was also due to its size. Since it is a small company, there were not many people being hired therefore I was not able to see things such as the hiring process first hand. However, I was still able gain a lot of knowledge about the field. This internship allows you to gain knowledge on what day to day might look like once in the Human Resources field. Therefore, if you are flexible, motivated, and want to go down this career path, or are thinking about doing so, this is a good site to get your foot in the door that will help you figure out if this is the field for you.
