SPURS Therapuetic Riding

Overview

Sunny Equestrian Center (SPURS) is a therapeutic riding center that provides treatment through horseback riding lessons for individuals with a variety of disabilities. Through horseback riding, individuals gain self-confidence, self-esteem, social skills, muscle tone and balance.

Duties

• Groom horses
• Tack horses
• Lead horses and walk alongside riders, helping to support and stabilize them
• Assist SPUR lessons
• Assist in daily barn chores (sweeping, cleaning stalls, feedings, etc.)

Requirements

• Comfortable working around horses (*Note: no prior horse experience is necessary)
• Dedicated and caring individuals (Must 14+ years old)
• Attendance at volunteer training workshop is mandatory (workshop covers all aspects of volunteering with the program)
  • Tacking
  • Grooming
  • Leading
  • Side-walking
• Arrive 20-25 minutes prior to lesson
