Mosaic Music Therapy
Overview
interns will be accepted beginning Fall 2024
Mosaic Music Therapy is a provider of a unique collaboration of Music Therapy and Rehabilitation Services, utilizing the therapeutic qualities of music to assist individuals in reaching physical, psychological, neurological, and emotional health and well being. Since its inception in 2011, Mosaic Music Therapy has provided both clinic-based and community therapy services to residents of Monmouth & Ocean counties. Recently, Mosaic has partnered with Children's Specialized Hospital to allow patients in long-term care access to music therapy. Our therapeutic approach is person-centered, as we design a therapy experience around each participant's strengths and needs. No musical background is required to participate; rather, our work is founded upon the natural, inherent connection all human beings have to music.
Duties
Internship experiences begin with observation of active therapy sessions led by board-certified, master's level music therapists. Interns may be asked to participate in sessions as determined by therapist. Interns will participate in treatment team meetings, during which therapy goals, objectives and progress will be discussed. Interns will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement to protect the health care information of all therapy participants. Interns will also have access to our vast therapy video database of approx. 5,000 therapy sessions, which can be viewed and discussed with clinical staff. Interns may be asked to participate in ongoing research design and implementation at our clinic, as determined by the program director.
Requirements
Interns must be actively engaged in the undergraduate psychology program at Monmouth University; introductory psychology coursework as a prerequisite would be beneficial. Independent transportation is required. Scheduling is based upon student and clinician availability. Comfortable, professional attire is required.

Student Feedback
My internship was at Mosaic Music Therapy and Rehabilitation Services located in Manasquan. I spent most of my days sitting in sessions with the clinicians and participate through playing music, singing along, and encouraging the clients to make independent choices about how they would like to engage in session. I was able to improve on my communication skills with the clients, guardians or aides of the clients, and any professionals in a clinical setting. I was also given the chance to apply psychological concepts like mental health symptoms and diagnostic criteria when engaging in sessions. The best part about music therapy is that it makes the sometimes-difficult work of therapy not feel like work at all. I would recommend this internship site to anyone who is open to working with unique individuals of all ages and enjoys music.
