Overview


Mission Statement: "The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is dedicated to promoting mental health and wellness, the prevention of mental illness and the improved care and treatment of persons affected by mental illness. Their mission is accomplished through MHA's strength based innovative programs, education, advocacy, community partnerships and shaping public policy."
The MHA works in various settings in Monmouth County assisting people with both mental health treatment and social services. The main office in located in Shrewsbury, NJ where many clients come to receive mental health counseling and treatment. In addition to the Shrewsbury office, the MHA of Monmouth County has a resource network in Red Bank, NJ which provides clients with social security information, family counseling, assistance in acquiring food stamps and assistance in finding appropriate housing.

The MHA of Monmouth County's newest facility is the Bayshore Wellness Center located in Keansburg, NJ. The Bayshore Wellness Center opened in February 2013 to provide free mental health counseling and treatment to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Duties

  • Answering the phone and checking messages
  • Calling clients to schedule appointments
  • Assisting the Director in public outreach programs
  • Handling client referrals and intake forms
  • Conducting research
  • Shadow staff and attend meetings
  • Become familiarized with clinical skills/therapeutic techniques

  • Access to a vehicle
  • Flexible internships hours Monday through Friday 9:00-5:00
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Background check
