Lumina Mental Health (based in Ocean, NJ) exists to enhance the mental and behavioral well-being of youth and families by providing trauma-informed, community-based services rooted in compassion, cultural responsiveness, and evidence-based practice.

Roles

Behavioral Assistant (BA):

Interns in the BA role will support children and adolescents in implementing behavioral interventions and skill-building strategies under the supervision of a licensed clinician. Responsibilities include assisting youth with emotional regulation, communication, and social development in home, school, and community settings. This role helps students gain practical experience in applied behavioral techniques and therapeutic engagement.

Undergraduate interns in the Behavioral Assistant (BA) placement will receive $25 per hour for direct service work performed under supervision.


Intensive In-Community (IIC) Support Role:

Interns working alongside IIC clinicians will observe and assist in therapeutic sessions provided in homes, schools, and community environments. Students will gain exposure to trauma-informed care, treatment planning, and family systems work. This experience provides a meaningful understanding of how individualized behavioral health care is delivered in real-world settings.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a psychology or social work program
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • Completion of agency onboarding and background clearance
  • Orientation session covering confidentiality, safety, and trauma-informed engagement principles
