The site is located in Farmingdale, New Jersey. Howell High School includes grades 9-12, in addition to an academic learning center for the Arts. The internship offered will take place in the Guidance Department working closely with seven Guidance Counselors and shadowing them in aspects related to personal problems with students or parents, scheduling, college opportunities and absentees. The school Social Worker is also located in the department, and she works with the students with special needs.

Overview
The site is located in Farmingdale, New Jersey. Howell High School includes grades 9-12, in addition to an academic learning center for the Arts. The internship offered will take place in the Guidance Department working closely with seven Guidance Counselors and shadowing them in aspects related to personal problems with students or parents, scheduling, college opportunities and absentees. The school Social Worker is also located in the department, and she works with the students with special needs.
Duties
- Being present in important student and parent meetings
- Making copies, sending faxes
- Updating the student website on colleges called Naviance, and the scheduling website called Genosis.
- Helping the Counselors with their caseloads and assisting with college searches
- Creating passes to give to students
- Becoming familiar with AP tests and HSPA
- Creating lists of names of students for certain classes, and sending out emails to them
Requirements
- Ability to be comfortable speaking with kids and other adults, as well as dealing with possible traumatic experiences
- Staying calm during a crisis
- Being professional when dealing with the students and other staff
- Responsible and independent
- Experience in psychology (preferred)
