Overview


Dottie's House is a non-profit organization that offers a transitional housing facility for women and children who have survived domestic violence. The goal of the program is to complete two years while learning how to be self-sufficient. The women learn how to become emotionally and financially independent.

Dottie's House accepts interns and volunteers during the fall, spring and summer semesters.


Duties


There are two different positions available at Dottie's House.

Volunteer duties include:

  • organizing paper work
  • filing paper work
  • cleaning apartments
  • writing thank-you notes
  • researching for different grants
  • babysitting children
  • answering the phone
  • taking messages


Intern duties include:

  • observing group sessions
  • participating in art therapy with children
  • learning about the women's stories
  • working with case worker/social worker

Requirements


  • be familiar with domestic violence and the effects on women and children
  • possess good communication skills
  • have developed office skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality


Hours:

  • interns hours are limited to 6-9PM on Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
  • volunteers hours are more flexible including Monday-Friday from 8:30AM-4:30PM
