Overview

The purpose of CASA of Union County is to assist children with out-of-home placement achieve permanency in a safe and nurturing home.

The program seeks to:
a) advocate for the best interests of children
b) Recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers who will be appointed by and assist the Family Court by gathering relevant information about the child and the family
c) Establish and maintain effective relationships with the Family Court, Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), Child Placement Review Board (CPRB), Office of the Public Defender, Legal Aid, and other child serving agencies/institutions
d) Educate the community about the role of CASA of UC in the lives of children in out-of-home placement.
e) Represent the CASA program at local and county level organizations concerned with child welfare

Court Appointed Special Advocates position will provide a valuable experience to those interested in moving on to work in the Child Welfare & Court systems. The hours will be flexible to assist the student in his/her schedule. The internship may lead to a paying position.


Duties


Under the supervision of an Advocate Supervisor, the student intern will be assigned the following tasks:

1. Assist Advocate Supervisor with volunteer recruitment, training and supervision
2. Attend court with Advocate Supervisor whenever possible
3. Assist in outreach activities
4. Help prepare mailing, promotional materials and recruitment materials
5. Assist with database and donor base data entry
6. Participate in CASA trainings
7. Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • College student
  • 20 hours per week
  • 3 month commitment
