Student Feedback

In the Fall of 2024 I had the opportunity to intern at the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation located in Eatontown, New Jersey. This nonprofit organization supports adults with developmental disabilities and supplies them with the skills to live fuller lives. Some of my day to day responsibilities included shadowing & co-facilitating group therapy sessions, observing client/counselor one on one sessions, taking attendance, and completing group progress notes for the clients. Some skills that I practiced and/or learned at CVR include professionalism, the ability to connect with clients, networking, and more! The most enjoyable aspect of my position was being able to connect and build meaningful relationships with the clients. Something that wasn’t enjoyable was when counselors were extremely short staffed, often when this occurred I had to take on many responsibilities that I didn’t expect. Which leads me to the type of student that would best benefit from this site, someone with flexibility and the ability to adapt to varying situations/change. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at CVR but I would urge future applicants to consider the pace of this site. ~Kiera Luckie, FA24

CVR is a great environment for interns to gain experience. Both the staff and participants are welcoming and kind. There is much exposure to different mental health illnesses that a person can see first hand as opposed to reading about them. The site offers great hands-on experience and interaction with participants from supervising them on the work floor, observing groups, and running one themselves if they have the knowledge and experience to do so.
