Student Feedback

I spent most of my time at my site observing and shadowing my supervisor whether it was during testing, counseling or meetings with parents, the child study team or administrator. Although all I did was observe and was not really hands on until my little piece project, I really enjoyed learning the process of an IEP and how testing a child helps the teachers and families understand why a child is not excelling. From the start of my site, to the very end I saw students improve upon goals they set in the beginning of the school year. I practiced skills like listening and brainstorming ideas with Jessica as to why a child may have a specific behavioral problem as well as practicing how to observe in a classroom the right way. I enjoyed group time with the five students every morning because I was able to pinpoint how each activity they did helped improve upon their goals. I was able to shadow Jessica when she counseled kids that had behavioral problems and she entrusted me with reading their case files after. A lot of work goes into making a case and I was able to learn the process through my experience. If any student is interested in school psychology, I highly recommend this site because Jessica is an amazing supervisor who is all for you making this experience how you want it to be. She answers every question I had and is very good with answering emails. She offers amazing advice for graduate school and does not pressure you to pursue something you may not like. Jessica is close in age and went to Monmouth, so she is familiar with some professors and the internship class and I am very thankful I had the opportunity to shadow her work.
